Cloud Expo Asia, Cloud & Cyber Security Expo and Data Centre World, Singapore gather thousands of business leaders on first day of highly-anticipated fifth edition

With new launches Smart IoT Singapore and Big Data World, Day One sees huge industry support for APAC’s largest dedicated enterprise technology event

Singapore – October 11, 2017 – Cloud Expo Asia, Cloud & Cyber Security Expo and Data Centre World, Singapore, part of the world’s leading technology event stack, welcomed a record-breaking number of industry stakeholders and decision makers on its first day at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Day One opened with a welcome address delivered by honourable guest Hock Yun Khoong, Chief Digital Evangelist at the Info-communications and Media Development Authority (IMDA). Khoong spoke of the importance of advancing cloud computing as the underlying infrastructure in transitioning both enterprise and public sector organisations from a dated, physical economy into the digital economy of the future.

Delegates also heard from Bernie Trudel, Chairman of the Asia Cloud Computing Association, in an opening keynote session which took a look into the future impact of artificial intelligence in the cloud ecosystem.

The opening day brought together leaders from across the business landscape to participate in an impressive line-up of seminars, workshops and panel discussions focused around top industry trends.

Further conference highlights from the opening day included a lively panel discussion around agile networking deployments. The session saw panelists, including Michael Becerra, Head of Network Architecture at DHL, Shayne Stubbs, VP of Service Providers and Cloud at Silver Peak, and Stree Naidu, VP Asia Pacific & Japan at Cato Networks, discuss how software-defined solutions and network function virtualisation are transforming the telecom, cloud service provider and enterprise sectors.

The Big Data World Open Air Theatre, sponsored by Hortonworks, also featured packed-out presentations delivered by Zane Lim, Senior Data Scientist at Go-Jek, Michal Szczecinski, Head of Analytics & Data Scientist at GoGoVan, and Johnson Poh, Head of Data Science at DBS Bank. The sessions covered a range of key trends in big data and analytics, including machine learning, insights strategy and model training.

Speaking at the end of Day One, CloserStill Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Andy Kiwanuka, noted: “Our Singapore event stack continues to be the number one destination for the Asian technology ecosystem as local businesses progress through their business transformation journeys.

“What an exciting first day we’ve had! It has been a huge success with over 80% of the floor space already reserved for our 2018 event – and it’s only day one!”

Cloud Expo Asia exhibitor, Dimuth Samaranayaka, CEO of Ascension IT was extremely happy with the first day of activity: “We exhibited in 2016 and, as a startup, it was a fantastic opportunity for us to join with partners and to break into the market. That’s why we are here again. Last year we just had a stand, but this time we’ve got a stand, a speaking session and have also produced an expert article – all have helped us to get this extra visibility!”

Smart IoT Singapore speaker Jayraj Nair, VP & Global Head of IoT at Wipro Limited noted: “Any opportunity to get technology and its implementations exposed to a large audience like this through face-to-face engagement is so important. People with like minds and goals can come together and learn, aggregate ideas and share knowledge. It is a good way for vendors to evangelise about what they are trying to deliver. I’m a big fan of this event series!”

Big Data World visitor Joanne Lim, Business Intelligence Manager at Menarini Asia Pacific, added: “I am currently working in the pharmaceutical industry and Big Data World has been a really interesting event for me. I have been able to update my industry knowledge from all of the showcases and expert speakers. It is critical to have that face-to-face interaction!”

Data Centre World visitor Jason Teo, Director at NTT Singapore said: “The Live Data Centre of the Future is a great place to explore new technologies and foresee the future data centre! I particularly love seeing cabling designs in action. I have been to Data Centre World every year and my colleagues are with me this time for the co-located event, Cloud Expo Asia.”
