Will Smart has served for the last three years as Chief Information Officer (CIO) Health and Care in England. A joint appointment between NHS England and NHS Improvement, Will is responsible for providing strategic leadership across the whole of the NHS to ensure that the opportunities that digital technologies offer are fully exploited to improve the experience of patients and care providers in their interactions with health and social care; the outcomes for patients; and improved efficiencies in how care is delivered. The challenge in NHS has included vast and disparate pools of healthcare data across the country with limited structure and interconnection.
