Organisations today are establishing teams to tackle Big Data & AI challenges and they go by a lot of names – analytics teams, data scientists, AI labs, Digital [insert favourite synonym for team] and so on. All of these teams typically have the same short-term objectives, more or less summed up by: demonstrate value, make positive change in the organisation and demonstrate new ways of working with technology. Long term objectives are usually some spin on creating the data driven organisation.
What binds these teams, no matter the industry or status in the organisation, are the common pitfalls and ‘gotchas’ that prevent meaningful, measurable success and leave these teams performing as glorified reporting functions or spending most of their time on what I call ‘analytics on the margin’.
